your article about the Longest Journey not coming to north America. My hat's off
to you for not holding back for what you and all of us Adventure gamers feel about
what is happening to the adventure world. This is the first time I have ever wrote
to anyone about this subject. I've been sitting in the back row and read all about
what is going on with the Adventure genre but after reading your article I couldn't
help myself. I am sick and tired of almost every game that comes out has that
"kill anything that moves" attitude about it. Obviously it doesn't take
much to keep the simple mind happy. My thumbs up to you Randy!! Mark

Subject: UGLY AMERICANS Randy, you got my vote for president. My finger
is in the air too. What can we do about this lack of interest in selling Adventure
Games? Why is there a problem in Adventure Gaming interest. We have this special
drive that makes it hard to wait for a long anticipated adventure game. To load
a game up, click start, watch the opening sequence and start a game not knowing
where it will lead or how it will play out is a feeling only we as adventure gamers
can describe. I heard that The Longest Journey might not be available in the US
so I contacted Funcom. They wrote me back saying if it is not sold in the US it
will be available at their web site. I also wrote Dreamcatcher because they picked
up Riddle of the Sphinx and told them of this game hoping they will do the same
here. Have not heard from them yet. You being in the position that you are in,
being able to reach out to thousands, need to tell adventure gamers what steps
to take so we don't loose adventure games all together. I do see this happening.

Randy, I really enjoyed reading your article on 'The Ugly Americans'. I
live in Canada, and I have been paying a lot of attention to The Longest Journey
for quite some time. I wrote a couple e-mails off to see if/when The Longest Journey
would be released in North America, and also to see if I could get a copy to review.
Worry not though ... I believe things will come through 8^) You can expect
to see The Longest Journey in North America soon enough 8^), and I'm sure it'll
be popular over here too. It will not be as popular due to the fact that North
Americans do not enjoy the same things as European people. This is kind of like
hockey ... it means a lot to myself and my fellow Canadians, but in Europe they
may like soccer more. It's all how your raised, and also ... such games as adventure
games and war games don't require large staffs, so they cost less to create 8^). Anyway
... good job on the article ... also I'd like to note that I sent an e-mail to
one of my buddies at Monolith Productions for him to look at. I know Monolith
has done some publishing for companies in the past, and even though Fox Interactive
is publishing Monolith's games I can still see Monolith as a publisher. Such companies
as Nival and Valkyrie Studios have had extreme success with Monolith ... you may
want to look into this yourself! Sincerely, Will Decker Insane

Randy, We have read your article, and everybody at Funcom think it is great!
It is good that someone finally start a discussion about what criteria video games
have to meet in order for publishers to accept them. Funcom has not yet
found a publisher in the States, and we are really upset that this process has
taken so long. But several publishers are still evaluating the game, and it could
seem like they are awaiting European sales figures before they decide whether
to commit to the game or not. I am sorry that there has been a misunderstanding
in regards to the US publishing plans. Our support department has stated that
the "English version" will be available in March. But this is only in
the UK! Sorry, that we were unclear about that ! We have also stated this on the
official "Longest Journey" web page to avoid misunderstandings in the
future. Anyway, thanks a lot for writing the article. It might help us a
lot in the struggle to get a good publisher agreement! Best regards
