There are some games that are horrible simply because they
are poorly programmed or sloppily designed. These are the games
that were rushed to market due to budget restrictions or self-imposed
deadlines. There are other products that are buggy due to lax
beta testing or company apathy. But there is also a third category.
These are the games that blood, sweat and tears went into, years
of love and labor, but when these games finally reach the consumer,
we shake our heads in wonder and awe at the ineptitude of the
gameplay, the unbelievable voice acting or the ludicrous plot
development. These are the games that should have "Play at
Your Own Risk" emblazoned in red day-glo letters across the
front of the box. We play, or attempt to play, in disbelief, wondering
how such an atrocity passed the scrutiny of the quality assurance
team. We marvel that an entire development team thought that this
game was worthy for mass consumption. These are the games we are
concerned with--they are the "classics" that beg for
entry into the Just Adventure Dungeon of Shame. |
