Here we have Daedalic Entertainment's biggest and most ambitious undertaking yet: adapting the best-selling historical novel The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett into a 2D point-and-click adventure/interactive novel. It will span a full season as follows: Book 1: From Ashes, available in August 2017, with Book 2 and Book 3 "available soon." Daedalic will share more information about Books 2 and 3 at Gamescom this year.

The story takes place in poverty- and war-stricken 12th-century England, in a fictional town called Kingsbridge. The game will be non-linear and follow three playable protagonists -- Jack, the outsider; Aliena, the noblewoman and Philip, the monk -- as well as two other playable characters.

In Pillars, you'll follow an epic war complete with conspiracies and romance. You'll also influence characters' fates by changing events depicted in the novel.

Matt Kempke and Kevin Mentz, the game's authors and designers: We took the source material completely apart and reassembled it as a unique experience for the player. We kept the core story but of course a game gives us more freedom to add decision-making and interaction.

The Pillars of the Earth Book 1: From Ashes will be released this August on Steam for Windows, Mac and Linux.
